Canada's Cadet Movement has a history that reaches back to the drill associations created to address concerns about the Fenian raids in the late 19th century. Despite being long established in our country, few Canadians are aware of the opportunities the Cadet Movement offers our young men and women.
What is the Canadian Cadet Movement?
The Canadian Cadet Movement is the largest federally funded youth program in Canada. The Canadian Cadet Organizations are the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, the Royal Canadian Army Cadets and the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets. Local squadrons and corps are staffed by specially trained officers belonging to the Cadet Instructor Cadre and by civilian instructors.

Free Multimedia Learning Kit Explores WWI
As many homeschool curriculum outlines were written for American families, Canadian homeschoolers face the challenge of finding affordable and accessible materials to teach subjects like civics and history from a Canadian point of view. A number of texts are available for younger students, but finding engaging materials for older students can be difficult. Free educational resources produced by the federal government are often the solution. In this review we will look at Canada and the Great War 1914 - 1918: A Nation Born, a kit produced by Veteran Affairs Canada in 1998 and currently available on the VAC web site.
